Seabass – 8:00pm

Favorite local lad Sebastian ‘Seabass’ opens the show tonight!

Sebastian Robertovich Edmonds was born on Sakhalin Island in Yuzhno- Sakhalinsk, Russia in November 1993. He grew up in Sonoma County California where, early on, he developed a love for guitar. Despite exposure to a lot of really bad pop music, screeching metal, and raucuous punk rock at a young age, he somehow managed to find that fingerstyle solo acoustic guitar would be his true passion. His electric guitar was soon replaced with acoustic and has seldom left his hand as he has been learning and developing his craft on his own since age 12. Greatly inspired by guitarists such as Andy McKee, Michael Hedges, Kaki King, Scott Huckabay, Antoine Dufour, Gareth Pearson, and many others, he continues to study and incorporate many styles of guitar into his playing. He has developed a dexterous, neo-classical and percussive fingerstyle method of playing.

Thursday, May 30th
Lucky Tubb & the Modern Day Troubadours, Laura Benitez & the Heartache – $5

LUCKY TUBB & The Modern Day Troubadours – 9:30pm

Nephew of country icon Ernest Tubb, Lucky’s style is reminiscent to the raw, original country and honky tonk styles of the earliest Nashville artists. After touring as opening act for Dwight Yoakam, Ray Price, and Hank III, Tubb & the Modern Day Troubadors showcase their strong traditional influences that have run in the family for years.

Lucky Tubb was born in Fort Worth Texas in 1971. He was raised, in part, by his grandparents CR and Margie Tubb. CR was brother to Country Music Legend Ernest Tubb. Lucky would soon become integral to the country music dynasty he was born into. Tubb learned to play the guitar at the age of seventeen while practicing his craft and learning to reflect and write about his life experiences in a true to life fashion.

http://www.oldtimey.net/luckytubb.htm

Laura Benitez and the Heartache use the three chord tools of country music to tell the simple, unvarnished truth about love, too much whiskey, and the call of the road. Their songs range from honky-tonk shuffles to rock ‘n’ roll numbers to sweet old time waltzes, and cover everything from unwed motherhood (“Me or the Baby”) to mean drunks (“Don’t Wake the Devil”), with a whole lot of heartbreak in between. Their twangy honesty shines through in straightforward arrangements, crystalline harmonies, and spare instrumentation. Beware their catchy hooks and sweet melodies – these stray puppy tunes will follow you home and become your most steadfast companions.

Laura Benitez, songwriter, lead singer and founder of Laura Benitez and the Heartache, has been making her mark on stage and screen since the year 2000. After several years spent pursuing an acting career and appearing in soap operas and commercials in Los Angeles, she decided to focus on her music and moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 2004. Diving into the region’s rich Americana and roots music scenes, she first started honing her country music chops when she joined the newly formed Cottonpickers with her then husband Mitch Polzak in 2005. Taking her musical cues from the heavily rock influenced Bakersfield sound, and her lyric inspiration from her favorite songwriters Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn, Laura began writing songs in 2008. She released her first album, “For Duty or for Love” on her own Copperhead Records label in 2010. The album is available for purchase from the artist and can be downloaded at reverbnation.com/laurabenitez.

In 2012 she recruited the multi-talented singer, songwriter, and drummer Michele Kappel-Stone (Kirby Grips/Tippy Canoe) into the band, and was lucky enough to secure the talents of Bob Spector and Ted O’Connell (of The GoldDiggers) on twang guitar and bass. The newest honky-tonker is Ian Taylor Sutton on pedal steel. When she’s not writing songs, Laura spends her time behind a sewing machine, making her own stage-wear and dressing the band whenever they let her.

After spending the last few years winning the hearts of audiences in the San Francisco Bay area, Laura Benitez and the Heartache are branching out to tour farther afield in the coming year. They are also working on recording their second album. Check them out live for a preview of the soon-to-be-released new tunes. See you at the next show!

Friday, May 31, 2013

Doors 8 PM Show 8:30 PM

Joseph “Zigaboo” Modeliste is a master drummer, rhythm innovator, percussionist, and New Orleans legend. The most highly acclaimed drummer ever to hail from the Crescent City, Ziggy’s creativity has been a wellspring of funk influence for three decades and inspired many Hip-Hop tracks. His innovative work as a member of the internationally acclaimed R&B group, The Meters, as well as his side work with artists like Keith Richards, Robert Palmer, and Dr. John, has garnered him an unparalleled level of respect among musicians and fans. Zigaboo Modeliste was one of the very first acts to play at the then newly opened The Powerhouse Brewing Company back in 1995, and he was a club favorite for the next nine years. In 2012 Zig and The Meters were on the ballot for the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, and he is currently featured in producer Mark Ronson’s Re:Generation Music Project where he wrote and performs the original song “A La Modeliste” with Erykah Badu, Mos Def, Trombone Shorty, and members of The Dap Kings.
